Primary Blog/Longevity/Daily Habits Are Your Best Health Insurance: Protect Your Health, Avoid Hospital Bills, and Stay Independent

My daughter had her last wisdom teeth removed. The surgery was routine. The recovery was not.

She developed a pounding headache. Couldn't sleep. Then came the vomiting.

We went to the emergency room.

She had not been able to keep her antibiotics down. The infection got worse. She needed another surgery (ouch!) to clean the area and remove debris.

She stayed in the hospital for four days on IV antibiotics.

I am grateful she received prompt, quality care. But through all of it, what was her biggest stresser?
Not her toddler. I had stepped in to help there.

It was the cost.

Even with insurance, she is responsible for 20% of the bill. We do not know the total yet, but it will be painful.

Sadly, this is not unusual. Hospital pricing often changes based on zip code. Many services are out-of-network even at the same hospital. Blood work, labs, and consults can be billed separately at higher rates. Some hospitals even garnish wages to get paid.

All of it reminded me why I take personal health responsibility so seriously.

The health insurance I invest in does not come from a company.
It comes from my daily habits and choices.

Whole foods. Daily movement. Deep sleep. Emotional clarity. Meaningful connection. Breath.

...And stress management. Because stress delays healing. It weakens the immune system, disrupts sleep, and slows recovery from surgery or illness. The body cannot fully repair itself when it is constantly bracing for the next threat.

These are the habits that lower risk, reduce inflammation, and help your body and mind bounce back faster when life gets tough.

This is how to stack the odds in your favor.

If we want to be available to the people we love, and stay free from costly, stress-filled medical care, we cannot wait for the system to take care of us.

Join me. Let's do what we can now.
