For 30 years, I was the model of “healthy” eating.

Vegetables, beans, nuts, cheese, grains, and a sprinkle of chocolate. I was a dedicated vegetarian. I thought I was fueling my body - and the earth - the best way. 

To save time, I would eat anything "vegetarian": french fries, cheese pizza, and fake meats.

After decades, things took a turn.

I gained weight.
I felt foggy.
Moody and tired.
Even my teeth and bones were thinning.

Eventually, I got pre-diabetes.

I was shocked. How could someone eating so “clean” be headed toward chronic disease?

My painful frozen shoulder was also related to my so-called "healthy" eating. I wouldn't have believed it if anyone told me so at the time.

I needed to make changes.

Inside, I had to stop lying to myself -- I wasn't eating that clean.
